MACCP's History

1984
MARTR established to provide smaller agencies with a voice in government discussions and access to benefits.

1984-2018
During this period, MARTR was responsible for running CORE training, funded by the Department of Families. This training was available at no cost to all Community Care Providers in the province.

2018
Funding for CORE training diminishes. Board Chair shifts focus to culturally appropriate training and seeks collaboration with CCCTC.

2019
The Link, formerly operating as Macdonald Youth Services, joins MARTR, fostering collaboration with CCCTC. Maanaji’idiwin pilot training program launched, ensuring continued funding for training.

2023-2024
New training model implemented with increased no-cost/low-cost sessions. Executive Director hired and Board expanded. Advocacy becomes a key focus. CCCTC members join MACCP.

Present
MACCP (Manitoba Association of Community Care Providers) continues to evolve with a focus on training, advocacy, and collaboration within the sector.
Advocacy

Education Subcommittee
The Education Subcommittee, hosted by MACCP, is focused on identifying and addressing the barriers currently faced by children and youth in care within the education system. Comprising community care providers, MACY, and Louie Riel school division, the subcommittee collaborates to understand the unique challenges these youth encounter and advocate for solutions that foster better educational outcomes. The goal is to promote policies and practices that break down existing obstacles, ensuring that children and youth in care have equitable access to the resources, support, and opportunities needed to succeed academically

Training Subcommittee
The MACCP-hosted Training Subcommittee is dedicated to identifying and addressing the training needs of frontline child welfare staff working with youth. By assessing key areas of need, the subcommittee develops targeted training programs that equip staff with the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively support and empower youth. Additionally, the subcommittee evaluates organizational and sector-specific needs to ensure training initiatives align with current challenges and emerging trends, ultimately improving the quality of care and services provided to youth in Manitoba.

CSA Subcommittee
The CSA Subcommittee is committed to supporting youth in care during and after settlement. By collaborating with key stakeholders, the subcommittee aims to address their unique needs, provide essential resources, and foster positive long-term outcomes.
